Welcome to our Frequently Asked Wedding Questions page! We understand that planning your big day comes with a lot of questions, and we’re here to help. Whether you’re curious about our photography style, the booking process, or anything in between, we’ve gathered the most common wedding questions we receive from our couples. Below, you’ll find comprehensive answers to help you feel confident and informed. If you don’t see your question here, don’t hesitate to pop your question on the form below —we’re always happy to provide more details. Let’s dive into your wedding questions and make sure everything is crystal clear!
Where are you based?
We live in Stamford, Lincolnshire. It’s right on the A1, making it easy to reach Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, to name a few. We work all over England, with an option for location weddings in Wales and Scotland and abroad too.
How far in advance should we book our wedding photographer?
We would say if it’s a weekend wedding, one to two years in advance, to avoid missing out. But if you have a wedding coming up shortly, it’s worth enquiring as we may have had a cancellation.
Do you require a booking fee to secure our date?
Yes we do, we often get enquiries for the same dates, so we unfortunately cannot hold a date on making an enquiry. To be fair, we use a first come first served system, that means to book us we require a completed booking form and 20% deposit.
Do we need to meet to discuss booking you as our wedding photographer?
No, not at all. We do love to meet our couples face-to-face and it can be helpful to get a feel for each other and discuss your requirements. But since the pandemic, zoom is a popular option and equally as valuable.
Do you take provisional bookings?
We do not, we often receive enquiries for the same dates, especially for weekend dates. So to make it fair, it’s a first come first served, and we will only book a date in our diary with a completed booking form and 20% deposit paid.
When is the balance due?
The remainder of the balance is due 60 days before the wedding day. A reminder email for the balance payment will be sent out to you. No images will be delivered until the final payment is made. The way our booking system is set up is in two increments: deposit and final payment. If the final balance is not paid before 30 days of the wedding, a booking cancellation email is automatically issued.
When will our photos be delivered
Typically most wedding photographer will fill their diary with weddings back to back, that can be 3 or even 4 weddings a week in peak season and your images go on a pile to be edited when your turn comes round, often 8 weeks even 16 weeks after your wedding.
We work differently, we block our time, often working late hours, so we can deliver your wedding photos within 2 – 4 weeks, often even quicker.
To us we realised it was the thing most couples complained about their wedding photography services, within the industry. So we wanted to make our service to you our priority, not just on the wedding day, but right up until we have edited and delivered your photos.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured. If your venue require a copy of our public liability cover or risk assessment documentation, just let us know.
Will I receive all the images you take from our wedding?
No. Part of our job is making the image selections and choosing the most flattering photographs of you and your day. The images we do not deliver are either repeats, out of focus, shots of you blinking or mid-sentence speaking. We have no reason to withhold any images if there are additional ones I think you would enjoy! We don’t have a limit so want you to have all the images that are the best quality.
Can I have the RAW files?
No. We don’t provide RAW photos because they are unprocessed and lack the finishing touches that make a photo truly special. RAW files require professional editing to enhance colors, lighting, and overall quality, ensuring a polished final product that aligns with our artistic vision. Additionally, RAW files are large and less accessible, whereas the edited JPEGs we deliver are high-quality, print-ready, and easy to share. We aim to provide a consistent and beautiful collection of images that you can cherish.
Will you retouch (Photoshop) appearances or expressions?
Yes and No – yes, if you have a huge spot on the day, there’s something distracting in the background we couldn’t move on the day or a bit of hair blown into the shot, yes I will photoshop that out. But no, I do not retouch or alter appearances. If this is something you want, there is an easy solution and that would be to outsource my final images to an editor or professional retoucher at an additional cost.
What if you get sick or can’t cover our wedding on the day?
It’s never happened yet, but there are two of us so it’s unlikely we would both be sick. But there is always a chance. You’ll be pleased to know we are part of a large network of fabulous wedding photographers across the whole of the UK. It is our responsibility to arrange and source a replacement with a similar style to us.
How will I receive my wedding photos?
Your digital images will be provided via a password protected online gallery with download feature. Your gallery will be available for you and your guests to view your wedding photographs and to purchase prints and other wedding products.
How long do you store my wedding photos?
The viewing gallery will be available for 90 days from the release day. We suggest you download all of your photos when the gallery link is emailed to you, and store them somewhere safe. We do offer an online storage option. If you wish to store your gallery for a longer period, there is an annual charge of £50 payable in advance of each year’s storage.
We want to book you but only need you for a few hours. Are you flexible with this?
Yes, we can accommodate if you want fewer hours, for instance, ceremony and early reception only. We charge £250 per hour, with a minimum of two hours. We also offer a half day package.
Are you generally able to photograph our wedding vows and ceremony?
In the majority of weddings answer is yes!! It’s the key part of the day, and it’s essential to have it documented. But some church venues/ registrars do not permit photography or have extremely limiting rules for photographer. So please do check with the venue and/or registrars about their photography policy.
What is copyright and who owns it?
As with the majority of wedding photographers in the UK, the photographer owns the copyright of the photos they take at your wedding. We then give you a licence to use the photos for unlimited personal use. This means you can post them on social media, share them with friends and family, and get albums and prints made. You can pretty much do as you please with them. The only limitation is using the photos for commercial/business use. For example if your cousin owned a wedding planning business and wanted to use some of the photos we took at your wedding for her website, the personal licence wouldn’t cover this. You or your cousin would need to contact me to ask permission to use them for this purpose (in this example we most probably would say yes). That being said, the photos are of you and your guests, so unless you give us permission to use your wedding photos on our social media, website and marketing, they would remain private. We would never use or sell the photos of your wedding, without your permission.
For example, if a wedding venue would like to use our photography of your wedding day, for their marketing, it would require your permission and a commercial licence from us.
We don’t like having our photo taken. Is this a problem?
Absolutely not! We hear this from couples all the time.
We do everything we can to make you both feel comfortable. We work in a very relaxed and friendly way, capturing your day as it unfolds and on occasion will gently guide you into flattering posing positions. That said, depending on your level of anxiety with photography, we can blend into the background and not spend much time with formal portraits. But instead capturing the story of your day, in a mainly candid style. We will always be on hand to offer help, advice and reassurance to help put you at ease.
So many times, couples tell us that they almost forgot we were there and were amazed by the number of moments we ended up capturing.
